"In 2012 I decided to start my own business, not knowing how far I'd take it or nearly how much work it would take. With the help of my parents, I bought a website, a batch of business cards and some henna and never looked back. I consider myself lucky to have the support of both of my parents and both of my younger sisters.
I'm growing up in a community where being an artist isn't the most praised profession, if you know what I mean, and I still listen to countless comments and criticisms from people in my community. Most of them shocked by the initial fact that I'm studying for a business degree and not one in the STEM field, followed by a second shock of me "still doing this hobby of mine."
That right there is the thing, this is far from a hobby. Creating art is my passion. I never get tired, I never get bored, and it never fails to make me happy. Not to mention the joy I'm able to bring others. When I'm able to create something that makes someone happy it makes my heart dance and I remember why I'm doing this to begin with.
For the past 6 years, I've poured my heart and soul into bettering every aspect of this business. Some things I've taught myself include countless hours of practicing henna itself, marketing, designing, sketching, website building, etsy shop creating, packaging, inventory, supply purchasing, communicating, networking, henna making, henna cone making, art festival attending, setting up, tearing down, photographing, videographing, editing, posting and so much more. And I couldn't be happier.
This is my calling, to create and inspire."
